Freshman Zeke Woodward was awarded Boy Scouts’ highest honor, the Eagle medal, Oct. 16 in Black Mountain. Nineteen-year-old Woodward, who is from the Asheville area, joined Boy Scouts eight years ago. For his final project Woodward made outdoor furniture for the Black Mountain Library.

Woodward is not the only Eagle Scout on campus, however. Though the distinction is a rare achievement—only three percent of Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts—Woodward is one in four on his floor in Sunderland alone who were awarded the Eagle medal.

Warren Wilson attracts the Eagle Scout type, according to Woodward.

“It takes a certain amount of commitment to get into this school and it takes a certain amount of commitment to be an Eagle Scout,” he said. “Being outside was something that I wanted to do and I wanted to bring other people outside too. Warren Wilson is in that same line.”
