Math is about ideas. My passion is fostering in my students a mathematical understanding of how to approach real world problems with the critical thinking to develop their solutions. I believe through the practical application of mathematics, students can overcome their apprehension about math and gain instead a deeper understanding and appreciation of its connection to nearly every subject. As Galileo once said, mathematics is the language of the universe. At Warren Wilson I have the opportunity to share the rich connections between a vast array of subjects and the language intrinsic to all of them. My current active research interests involve parameter estimation and stochastic models, data science, and modeling the human microbiome. In my spare time, I enjoy practicing Taekwondo, playing the trumpet, contra dancing, and painting miniatures.
