Warren Wilson College News

Southern Living

"Lessons From the Land" is the aptly named title of a feature story on Warren Wilson College in the March 2004 issue of Southern Living (Carolina Living section).

The profile, written by Ben Brown of Franklin, N.C., focuses on the college's farm and work program. The article blurb reads as follows: "One of the best small colleges in the country, this institution blends hard work and community service into education."

Three photos accompany the story, including pictures of students and farm manager John Pilson, who is quoted extensively in the story along with President Doug Orr and former farm crew member Katie Falkenberg (WWC '03). Pilson is quoted as saying, "Students learn that everything depends on everyone doing his or her part. Which means they learn to take pride in their work."

Southern Living is one of the largest and most successful regional magazines in the nation, with a paid circulation of about one-quarter million in North Carolina alone.
