In 2022, Robert’s grandson, Adrian Smith, restored the scooter, founded Robert Rust Foods, and began making burritos and bowls, with lots of hands-on love, in Winston-Salem.
They still sell hot food out of the scooter at farmers markets, breweries, and other events, but their products can also be found in grocery stores across North Carolina. Immortal Gear focuses on environmentally friendly practices by offering durable sewing repairs, repurposing and upcycling of worn-out goods, promoting sustainably sourced materials and helping to keep synthetic “forever materials” out of landfills.
Along with helping the individual recreation enthusiast maintain and repair their well-loved outdoor gear, Immortal Gear caters to a significant but under-served customer base of outfitters, summer camps and school outdoor programs in Western North Carolina that have large investments in clothing and gear inventories. Those Inventories suffer from hard use and abuse, and Immortal Gear’s professional services cost-effectively extend the viability of gear inventories and eliminate the need for frequent and expensive replacement. Good for the environment and good for the bottom line, Immortal Gear is doing well by doing good!
