The Learning Curve is a pay-by-semester program of intensive additional support services designed to assist students to make a successful transition to college and become independent, empowered learners for life. The program is non-diagnostic in nature, and is typically a strong fit for students with neurocomplex learning styles that may include learning disabilities, difficulties with executive functioning, or a need for social-emotional support, and who require a high level of support with daily touchpoints and intensive coaching.Â
The support offered is holistic and will include coaching for success in academics, the work program, community engagement, social life, and physical and mental wellbeing. By working behind the scenes with the student’s full team of educators on campus, the success coach will strive to equip students with the skills needed to pursue meaningful work and independent living post-graduation.
Learning Curve students will follow a tailored Learning Access Plan that includes daily direct contact with their learning specialist and/or peer coach and frequent indirect contact for continuous support. Students enrolled in the Learning Curve seek help above and beyond the support provided by the Campus Compass Program, or the services available to the general student body.Â
The Learning Curve provides:
- 3 one-on-one weekly sessions with a learning support coach specialized in learning disabilities, executive functioning, and neurocomplexity
- 2 one-on-one weekly sessions with a peer tutor
- Working in partnership with the student to identify needs, teach strategies to work around interference, and reach mastery through guided practice and application
- Support from a team including Learning Curve staff, professors, work supervisors, coaches, tutors, library and Writing Studio staff, and others as needed. This team works together to determine the student’s progress and exchange information about the effectiveness of strategies, plans, and new or developing issues.
- Once a student has found consistent success through participation in the Learning Curve, they may benefit from a transition into the Campus Compass program which will provide continued support at a less intensive level.
Program Cost:
$3000 per semester (a student may participate as many semesters as desired)
*This cost can be included in the student’s cost of attendance for financial aid purposes.
