In celebration of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week November 14-22, Warren Wilson College will hold its 17th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, 6 p.m., in the Upper Fellowship Hall.
The event raises awareness about hunger and food security issues in the Asheville and Buncombe County community.
Participants will eat a simple meal of bread and soup served in handmade bowls; at the end of the evening, participants take their bowls home as a reminder of the work we can do together to end hunger in our communities. Students from the Bonner Leaders Service Crew organize this event in collaboration with local agencies in order to ensure that the evening is educational and meaningful for all participants.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Homeward Bound, whose mission is to end homelessness in Buncombe and Henderson Counties by moving people into permanent housing and providing the support they need to stay there. Homeward Bound has six programs, each of which is designed to complement the others and to result in permanent housing for the people it serves.
Cost of the event is $20 for college employees and the general public and $15 for students. Tickets will be sold in the Service Program Office and during lunch in Gladfelter.
