Margo Flood resigns from post as executive director of Environmental Leadership Center

President Pfeiffer, Open Letter (pfeiffer@wwc)

To the Campus Community:

I regret to inform you that Margo Flood has decided to resign from her roles as executive director of the Environmental Leadership Center (ELC) and chief sustainability official of the College, effective May 15,
2011. The ELC has contributed greatly to the success of the College, and Margo’s leadership will be missed.

Margo began working part time for the ELC in 2000. In January of 2002,
she assumed a permanent position at the College. Then in 2008, while serving as executive director of the ELC, she was appointed to be our chief sustainability official. By virtue of her sustainability role,

Margo became a member of the President’s Advisory Council (PAC). Among her many contributions to PAC was the strong leadership she showed in guiding us toward adopting a sustainability decision-making model. By use of this model, the PAC considers the economic, social, and
environmental consequences of all its decisions.

In the past decade, the College has steadily achieved a position of national leadership in environmental responsibility and
sustainability.

Unlike any other college in this nation, we translate ideals into actions through academics, work, and service. Margo has been a major player in this effort and in the sharing of our success with the world outside Wilson. With the help of the ELC and other divisions on this campus, we will continue Margo’s work and hold to her ideals.

Soon I’ll announce a transition plan for leadership of the ELC. In the meantime, please join me in thanking Margo for all she has done for Warren Wilson.

Regards, Sandy Pfeiffer
