Cycling team to compete in road bike national championships May 2-4

In May the Warren Wilson College Cycling Team will be competing in the Collegiate Road Bike National Championships for the first time in the College’s history. Though the team is a familiar presence at  Mountain Bike Nationals each fall, this spring marks the Owl’s first appearance on the road.

Thanks to their impressive races this spring, five Warren Wilson riders will represent the College in Richmond, Va. the first weekend in May. Allison Jones (left in photograph) will race for the stars and strips jersey in the road race, time trial and criterium disciplines. Robin Crandall, Bergen West, and Dylan Flood will ride for the Owls in the Men’s Category 5 criterium race.

“We’re fired up to be going to road nationals this spring,” Cycling Coach Matt Williams said. “To be honest, at the beginning of the season I’d have told you that we were a year or two away from this, but the team has performed beyond all expectations this spring. They’ve put in the hard work to get themselves to the front of races all season long, and I’m looking forward to watching them put in some great rides at nationals.”
