WWC Professor Catherine Reid reads from her new essay collection

On March 5, the Creative Writing program hosted WWC writing professor Catherine Reid reading an essay from her new book, Falling Into Place: An Intimate Geography of Home.

Students, faculty, staff and community members gathered in the Cole Study Room of the library to support Reid and her growing success as she read an essay titled “Song Heart Rail” from her new book. Writing professors Gary Hawkins and Rachel Himmelheber introduced Reid, highlighting some of her recent achievements.

Reid was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a fellowship from the N.C. Arts Council in the past year. Her new book has received recognition as well. Oprah Magazine calls it “hypnotically poetic.”

Copies are on sale in our campus bookstore, be sure to get one before they’re gone!
