Dr. Steven Solnick’s inauguration as Warren Wilson College’s seventh president will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013 – a ceremony that brings together students, staff, faculty, friends, volunteers, alumni and leaders in the Asheville community and beyond. While presidential inaugurations are commonplace, here at Warren Wilson College our own community – student work crews, staff, faculty and many volunteers – build stages, grow food that’s being served during the festivities and tend to the landscape that enhances the breath-taking beauty that our campus is known for. These photographs show the carpentry crew assembling the stage on Sunderland lawn where the ceremony is taking place. More than 700 seats will be placed in neat rows in front of the stage, which offer a view of the blooming formal gardens and lush Swannanoa Valley. Faculty, staff, special guests and our new president will process from the theater to the stage, led by a bagpiper, promptly at 11 am. Dr. Solnick will be greeted and welcomed by this community before delivering an inaugural address. The celebration will continue with a picnic lunch on Sunderland lawn, followed by a Green Walk-About and music, theater and dance performances by students, staff and faculty at various locations around the formal gardens at 1 pm.
We’re eager to formally welcome our new president who arrived in August 2012. The Asheville Citizen-Times ran a great story on Dr. Solnick on Sunday, April 21, 2013. It’s not to be missed: http://www.citizen-times.com/article/20130421/LIVING/304210058/Warren-Wilson-president-down-earth-guy
