Mark Gibney, Belk Distinguished Professor and professor of political science at UNC Asheville, will deliver the first Andy Summers Memorial Lecture on Sept. 17 at Warren Wilson College. The free public lecture, titled “Ending the Nightmare: A Different Vision of Human Rights,” begins at 6:30 p.m. in Canon Lounge of the Gladfelter Student Center.
Gibney has written numerous books on human rights, the most recent being “International Human Rights Law: Returning to Universal Principles.”
Summers, who died March 13 after rapid onset of leukemia, was the longtime minister to students at Warren Wilson. He also taught in the college’s peace and justice studies department.
