WWC professors receive grants from Appalachian College Association

Fischer will use her sabbatical to complete research toward, and to begin writing, a book on existentialist ethics from the writings of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Gabriel Marcel and Luce Irigaray.

Han plans to study rural China, with the hypothesis that the Chinese government today faces legitimacy crises in the rural areas. He will interview farmers  and rural officials in order to test the hypothesis.

The Appalachian College Association, based in Berea, Ky., is a consortium of 35 independent liberal arts colleges and universities in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Currently these institutions collectively enroll more than 38,000 students. The association provides expanded and enhanced learning opportunities to faculty and students for the purpose of serving the educational and economic well-being of the people and communities of central Appalachia.
