This event was the final competition before nationals, which is being held in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania October 28-30. The short track, downhill, and cross-country races were held in Wilkesboro, NC by rival school Lees McCrae.
There were many top ten finishes among WWC bikers throughout the weekend’s races including Stiles Cumming’s 2nd place finish in the downhill and 7th place finish in short track while Kylie Krauss tore up the women’s field and finished in 4th place in both short track and cross country. Men’s C rider Nathan Sperry’s 2nd place finish in short track and 4th place finish in cross country were very impressive as was Men’s B rider Pat Hurley’s performance.
Coming off of the injured list for the first time all season, Pat put in some awesome rides in Men’s B, placing 4th in short track, 3rd in downhill, and 4th in cross country. This weekend was important because the final points were tallied for the entire racing season, and the winners were announced after the final race on Sunday. Trophies were awarded for the overall points winners in all divisions.
Warren Wilson College took home 2nd place overall, and brought home another very large trophy to continue the strong mountain biking tradition here at the College.
Individual trophies went to Stiles Cummings who took home the Men’s A gold trophy for the best overall performance throughout the entire season; women’s A rider Hanna Waldman took home the silver trophy while Camille Prevost brought home the bronze. Along with these wins for Warren Wilson, Men’s C riders Taylor Johnson and Ian Smith-Overman took home silver and bronze respectively. Congratulations to the individual winners and to the entire team for a great mountain biking season. May the tires keep on rolling.
